Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market started in 2009 as an idea and wish to support our local farmers & producers; be part of the revitalization of downtown Gloversville AND provide good nutritious food at fair prices to our consumers.
Our first store opened that year at 51 N. Main Street. It was small and very crowded - we couldn't carry many products or as much local produce as we wanted BUT it was a food cooperative, we had member-owners, we had customers, we were on Main Street and our local farmers & producers were selling directly to us.
Just 2 years later we were able to move to our beautiful current location at 30 N. Main Street. With so much more room, we were able to be a full-service grocery store (including meat, poultry and dairy from local producers). We were also able to add a deli that serves breakfast, weekend brunch & lunch everyday and a downtown Gloversville 'coffee house'. Micropolis Art Gallery, owned and operated by world-class local artists, occupies a beautiful space within Mohawk Harvest as well.
Six years later, "we are proud to feature food products from over 60 local and regional farmers and producers. We continue to build a network of local producers; promote community well being and environmental stewardship; offer nutrition information through on-going educational outreach; support economic sustainability of the local economy; seek to be a valuable resource for the community and part of a vibrant downtown area; create a sense of community and belonging; and of course, operate for the benefit of the community." (from 2014 Annual Report by Co-op Manager, Chris Curro)
We couldn't have done any of it without our member-owners and shoppers. Together we have accomplished wonders and we have just begun. Thank-you!
